Train Walk - Chester

Saturday 08 November 2025

Meet at 9.30am at Maghull Station to take the next train to Liverpool and then to Chester for a 9.1m E3 walk to the Welsh border and the River Dee.

Leader: Beth Ashby

Latest update information from Beth:

Meet a Maghull Station for the 9:48 train to Liverpool, then change at Moorfields for train to Chester. From Chester station, we walk down to the river and through the racecourse. We may not be able to walk through the racecourse as there is a big firework display on that evening, but we can walk around it.

I have put the details of the display below in case some of you are interested in staying to watch it. Click this link for Chester Fireworks website:

The Lord Mayor's Fireworks Extravaganza - Chester Racecourse

The walk takes us along the River Dee on the Wales Coast Path, this is a good path that cyclists use too. The river is to our right with countryside on the left. After a couple of miles, we cross the border into Wales. Further down the path, we cross a footbridge and begin our return to Chester on the other side of the river. This is a narrower more traditional footpath. This is an easy walk, boots and poles not needed, trainers will do.
