Meet at Maghull Station for the 9:48am train to Aintree for a 9.6m E2 walk from Aintree Station to Aughton.

Leader: Ken Sharp

Walk Leader, Ken Sharp, sends the following updated information:

This is an easy level walk and remarkably rural too, using the green corridor between Maghull and Kirby before reaching the more open Lancashire countryside.

Meet at Maghull Station (on the platform) to catch the 09.48am train to Aintree, arriving at 09.53am. I should be on the platform to greet members. Anyone going straight to Aintree Station should arrive in time to start the walk at 10am. Anyone wishing to make their own way to Aintree station by car or bus please contact me in advance.

Starting from Aintree station, and after a short urban section, we use the North Liverpool Loop line / Trans Pennine Trail skirting the southern edge of Aintree Racecourse to reach the Leeds Liverpool canal. We follow the canal and turn off at Holmes Bridge to reach Melling for our lunch stop at The Bootle Arms - bring a packed lunch.

We continue north using FPs over open farmland and some minor roads before crossing into Lancashire, twice!

We finish at Town Green, station at an estimated time of 3.30pm.

The walk will be at a leisurely pace; you may find a walking pole useful as the footpaths are quite muddy and slippery in places.
