Walks Calendar

Our varied programme has three kinds of walks: by car, by public transport and by coach.

No prior booking is required for the first two – just turn up at the stated meeting point and make yourself known to the leader. Most Sunday car walks start from Central Square, Maghull (note the parking restrictions).

Walk Grading System

E – Easy. Less than 700 ft of climbing. Suitable for most walkers.
M – Moderate. 750 ft to 1500 ft of climbing. Average walkers.
H – Hard. 1500 to 2500 ft of climbing. Need to be quite fit.
S – Strenuous. over 2500 ft of climbing. Fit and experienced walkers only.

For example, on the programme, this will show as: H17 = Hard walk with 1700 ft of climbing.

Meet at Maghull Station for the 10:03am train to Liverpool, then ferry to Seacombe, for a 7.7m easy, flat walk to New Brighton.

UPDATE FOR FERRY WALK

Walk Leader, Alan, sends the following additional information:

Meet at Maghull Station for 10.03am train to Liverpool. Alight at Moorfields and walk to Mersey Ferry Terminal at Pier Head. Board the 11.00am River Cruise for a 20 minutes trip up the Mersey. Alight at Seacombe Terminal to begin a 7.7 mile easy walk to Leasowe Lighthouse via New Brighton. Walk is almost entirely along the King Charles III Coastal Path passing New Brighton Perch Rock Fort and Marine Lake. Then on to Leasowe Castle and Lighthouse. Return to Liverpool by train from Moreton Station.

 

PLEASE NOTE THIS WALK IS ONLY AVAILABLE FOR FREE FOR MEMBERS WITH MERSEYTRAVEL PASSES. FOR NON MERSEYTRAVEL PASS HOLDERS THE FERRY EXPLORER CRUISE IS £14.00 OR £12.50 FOR Concession.

All zone save away tickets are also able to be used for a single river crossing.

We would like as many people as possible to join us on this walk: current members, former members, potential members. Families and dogs welcome.

Meet at Maghull Central Square at 9:30am for directions to Chirk Car Park for an 8.8m M12 walk around Chirk Castle and Chirk Aqueduct.

Detailed Walk Information

Our varied programme has three kinds of walks: by car, by public transport and by coach.  No prior booking is required for the first two – just turn up at the stated meeting point and make yourself known to the leader. Most Sunday car walks start from Central Square, Maghull (note the parking restrictions).

Public transport walks begin from the stated location and most are designed to make use of concessionary travel.  Bus and train times may alter – we suggest you check www.merseytravel.gov.uk.

Coach trips are different and the following rules apply:

  • Seats on coaches must be booked and paid for in advance.
  • Booking opens at our monthly meeting. 7.30 pm on the last  TUESDAY of each month in Kensington House, 12 Station Road, Maghull L31 3DF. There is ample parking at the front of the building.
  • The name and phone number of the person taking the booking is shown on the programme.
  • The current fares are:

Adult members: £15

Non-members: £18

Accompanied children under 16: £5

  • No refunds are given if a seat is not taken.
  • All coach trips start at Central Square, Maghull and leave promptly at the stated time.
